Product Manager

Job Description

Company Overview

Roadie is improving developer effectiveness in engineering organizations across the globe. By helping companies adopt and use Backstage, the open-source developer portal and service catalog developed at Spotify, we are making developers' lives easier and more productive.

We believe we’re at an inflection point where we can build a huge company if we make the correct choices now. We grew revenue by 10x in 2022 and have similar momentum in 2023. The work you do will directly impact that forward progress.

We are a fully remote, seed stage startup, backed by some of the best investors in the DevTools ecosystem. From developer first VC firms like Boldstart, to individual angels like Guy Podjarny - the founder of developer focussed security company Snyk, and Adam Gross, the ex-CEO of Heroku.

Though our company is young and has grown quickly, we have maintained a tight-knit culture and way of working even though we’re spread across 7 different European countries.

We aim to create a company culture where individual employees are empowered and trusted to do their best work. We are focused on collaboration, learning, and community conscientiousness.

About the position

We’re looking for the first Product Manager Roadie has ever hired. You will report directly to the CEO (who was previously a Senior Product Manager at Workday), and will own these areas:

  1. Gathering, distilling and communicating product requirements from customers, prospects, sales-people, analytics, and any other channels you can discover.
  2. Scoping product initiatives and working with the engineering team to design and release solutions, and train customers how to get value from them.
  3. Direct communication with customers, ensuring they are not just sold the product, but that they are successful with it.
  4. Setting and reporting on ambitious weekly and quarterly goals for yourself that tell a story of fast-paced product improvement.

You’ll track success against shared goals, report on progress and learnings along the way, and constantly look for creative ways to improve. You thrive in a small, nimble environment and have a quick start mentality. You should be a self-starter and be hungry to unlock customer value.

Here are some of the things you'll get to work on and learn about as part of this job:

Define, design and deliver solutions - the roadmap won’t be handed to you at Roadie. Your job will be to communicate directly with customers, engineers and the market to ensure the most impactful product roadmap emerges from the noise.

Ensure customers are successful - our job doesn’t end when we make the sale. You will be responsible for meeting with customers to help them get maximum value from the product. Customers will constantly ask for features, your job is to drill down to the underlying problem, and work upwards from there.

Facilitate decisions, rather than make them - you understand that you work with the engineering team in a collaboration. You make decisions by bringing stakeholders together, and ensuring everyone has access to the information they need to act autonomously.

What we’re offering

  • This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing venture-backed start-up that is building in a whole new market. Our customers are established scale-ups like Snyk, Hopper, MyFitnessPal and Contentful.
  • We offer a competitive salary based on experience.
  • We provide a meaningful stock options package.
  • 40 days paid time off (including public holidays in your country).
  • Fully remote position with flexible working arrangements.
  • Travel may be required at least once a year to meet the team.

The Process

  • The entire process is fully remote and all communication will happen over email or via video chat.
  • Once you've submitted your application, the team will review your submission, and may reach out for a short screening interview over video call.
  • If you pass the screen you will be invited to up to four follow up interviews. The calls usually take between 20-45 minutes each depending on the interviewer.
  • You will (at least) meet the founder & CEO, the Chief of Staff and the CTO.
  • Once the interviews are over, you will hear from us quickly, either with an offer, or a rejection with feedback when requested.

Our Values

The Roadie values were teased out by the entire team at the first Roadie off-site. They come from everyone.

  • Focused on collaboration - We choose to work on problems together rather than apart. We take the time to ensure everyone has the context required to contribute. Titles or experience do not fully determine who gets to work on what. There are no brilliant jerks here.
  • Driven by customer compassion - We take the time to deeply understand customer problems. We don't build things simply because we want to. We are focused on creating an excellent experience for the end user.
  • Optimized for learning - Controlled failures are encouraged at Roadie. Psychological safety is paramount. Nobody will be punished for experiments that don’t work out. We are always open to new ideas and no idea will be ridiculed.
  • Conscious of community - We consider our impact on the wider ecosystem and do our best for diversity, inclusion and equity. Our product was born from an open source project, so we consider ourselves part of a broad community.
  • Fulfilled by autonomy - Each person in Roadie is given a wide remit. We trust each other to deliver results without much hand holding. Decisions are made by those closest to the issue rather than those with the most seniority. We operate as though most decisions are reversible.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • You have 4+ years or more of working as a product manager.
  • You have technical experience or exposure — our customers are engineers, and you should have been an engineer or had plenty of exposure to the technical details of a previous product you managed. Our buyer profile is usually senior engineering management so it is important that you can understand their jobs-to-be-done and how Roadie can address them.
  • You don’t wait for people to make decisions for you. You’re willing to roll up your sleeves and get the information you need to suggest a direction.
  • You enjoy setting ambitious goals and competing against yourself to hit a higher bar.
  • You are able to work across the organization to constantly improve the customer's experience, including passing feedback to the engineering and product team.
  • This is a fully remote position. You should be based in a European time zone in order to have overlap with the engineering team.

We aren’t stuck on hard and fast requirements - everyone is different. We are looking for you to demonstrate whether you have the core attributes of a great product person.
