Lead Product Designer Copy

Job Description

Remote within +/-3 hours BST

Odin helps people to raise and deploy capital seamlessly

We envision a world where people can vote with their money on what the future looks like, and participate in creating it.

We’re starting by making it radically easier for anyone, anywhere, to launch & run an angel syndicate or venture firm.

We handle all the “plumbing” through one seamless platform - everything from setting up the legal structure for an investment vehicle through to processing payments.

We’re already trusted by over 7,000 VCs, angels and founders, and we are just getting started.

The Role

  • Build and deliver new features from concept to deployment, ensuring high quality and performance
  • Manage and execute projects from start to finish, maintaining accountability for successful outcomes
  • Drive major architectural and data model decisions, shaping the technical direction of our projects
  • Shape and refine engineering processes to enhance development velocity, delivery quality, and overall developer experience
  • Implement and advocate for best practices in testing, QA, and support, leveraging your experience to improve our approach
  • Raise the bar for the team by mentoring and pairing with colleagues, contributing to a culture of active collaboration and knowledge-sharing
  • Work closely with our Product Manager and designer to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes
  • Participate in the hiring process, helping to identify and attract top talent to the team

Your Qualities

  • Able to show a strong commercial mindset, leveraging technical decisions to solve customer problems. This also means pushing back pieces of work that do not move the needle for our customers or do not help the company's goals
  • Fix, you don’t patch. You’ve worked in an environment where the product must have 0 defects, showing an attitude of fixing the root of a problem rather than patching its symptoms
  • Brilliant communicator. You can articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translate non-technical challenges into elegant, secure and scalable solutions
  • See feedback as a gift to give and receive. You realise how important feedback is to build a strong culture, and you help your team be the best version of themselves
  • Raise the bar, technically. You demonstrate technical excellence, consistently challenging peers and bringing diverse perspectives that help elevate the team's performance
  • Strong team player. You proactively engage in pairing and mentoring, always willing to help others and prioritise team success over individual work
  • You’re ambitious and committed to excellence. You know that building something great requires hard work and time, but to you, it’s all worth it
  • Gets Things Done: You show a strong willingness to do what it takes to deliver, including learning new languages or skills (e.g., front-end development) as needed

Your Experience

Must have

  • You have a robust testing culture. TDD experience is a must. You consistently write well-tested code using the most suitable testing strategy for each context, which may include unit, integration, E2E, and BDD tests
  • You’re able to showcase strong system and software design skills. You must have experience in building scalable, distributed systems
  • You have demonstrated knowledge in designing SQL databases (we use PostgreSQL!) and optimising performance for read/write operations, and you have a deep understanding of data modelling principles
  • You have a strong understanding of CI patterns (we use GitHub Actions!) and you have worked in an environment leveraging CD

Nice to have

  • You’re proficient in Go and can demonstrate exceptional expertise in backend development. You must have leveraged Golang in previous roles to build safe, secure, and straightforward solutions
  • Platform engineering experience. You’re familiar with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, showcasing the ability to set up a highly scalable product
  • You’ve got experience building a product in a highly regulated domain/industry
  • You’ve worked in a startup where agility and speed are emphasised. This doesn’t mean you’ve worked long hours; instead, it reflects the standards of our high-performing team, where each individual takes ownership of features and knows the importance of delivering a high-quality solution on time
  • You’re familiar with the latest Frontend technology and stack (React, Panda, Vercel, just to name a few is a plus)

You won’t be a fit for this role if:

  • You’re not an experienced senior engineer already performing duties at the level above and ready to step up
  • You see management as the next stage of your career. With our team composition, we can only support the aspirations of someone who wants to excel as a Senior IC (e.g. Staff Engineer/Technical Lead)
  • You don’t meet all the must-have requirements
  • You can’t talk about the impact you had in your most significant role (we don’t want to know what you did; we want to know about how it improved the product, business and/or team)
  • You’ve not worked in a company that’s product-driven with a high-performing culture
