The challenge
- Better Stack has an unusually high concentration of makers.
- Every manager is an individual contributor and there’s close to 0 bureaucracy and politics.
- If you like meetings and 'strategy sessions', probably look elsewhere.
- But if you like winning and feel great about getting stuff done, you might love it here!
- Help us find like-minded makers that want to build the future of software.
- The way we work is quite different to most places. In fact, most people would probably not want to work with us, and we think that’s ok! Most people should not build early stage startups, in fact.
- When done right, however, even candidates we reject enjoy the interview experience and learn a lot.
- If you’re smart, open minded, driven and can think for yourself, read on!
What you’ll do
- Scout for new talented colleagues, coordinate the hiring process, extend offers, and be the candidate’s voice throughout the company.
- Talk to many new people every week (20+ intro chats per week) and create genuine connections.
- Balance inbound vs outbound hiring, learning to spot candidates even if they never applied or may not have direct prior experience.
- Work directly with both of our co-founders, our CTO, and more teammates on bringing the very best people on board on-site in Prague as well as remotely in Europe and the US.
- Be in charge of creating an 11-star candidate experience.
- Craft extraordinary employer branding and make the company an obvious interview choice for talented candidates.
- A great startup culture needs to be founder-driven. You’ll be the fail-safe to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
This might be for you if
- You enjoy pitching a candidate the mission, culture, product, and our work style.
- Learn fast and can discuss engineering topics with engineers.
- You consider yourself full-stack, managing all aspects of recruiting, from sourcing to conducting intro calls with candidates, coordinating all stages of the interview process, and helping to extend the offer or providing the candidate with valuable feedback.
- You don’t hesitate to do a lot of outbound and you’re not waiting for candidates to apply on their own.
- You enjoy delighting candidates throughout the process by being fast, transparent, energetic, and kind.
- You have a builder’s mindset. There’s plenty of things we’re doing already, but a lot more we could be doing in the future!
- You are curious. You enjoy checking the latest trends and never miss an opportunity to read a good book, listen to a podcast episode, or watch a talk on talent or startup-related topics and share that knowledge.
Who you’ll work with
- A team of smart and talented colleagues who are extraordinary at what they do and collaborate together to build an amazing product. Namely:
- Juraj & Veronika, both our co-founders, are hands-on and close to hiring every new colleague who joins the team. They’re the kind of founders who not only say the company is only as good as the people within the company; they act on it and are always ready to help bring more talented teammates on board. Both of them still interview all the candidates too, of course.
- Tomas, our CTO, engaged in sourcing, interviewing, extending offers, and onboarding.
- Magdalena has lived and traveled all over the world, which helps her connect with candidates and shape how Better Stack is seen from the outside. She takes care of growth, marketing, and technical recruiting, always juggling multiple hats with a focus on operational excellence. She is also a supporter of the Ruby community.
- Anna, our head of operations, who previously ran a space company developing software for satellites and probes.
Where to go next?
- Read about what it’s like to work here – feel the atmosphere, understand the culture.
- Read more about how we think about software engineering. It’s quite different from other companies! (Most of the principles we describe there apply to other parts of the company as well.)
