Senior Product Designer

Job Description

As regulations of the medical sector become increasingly strict in the European Union, health institutions, such as hospitals and laboratories struggle to maintain compliance due to a lack of knowledge and resources. This bears the risk of pushing small laboratories out of business and reducing the overall offering in diagnostics, ultimately resulting in a reduced health care quality for patients.

At Platomics, we address this problem by creating products that tap into an existing ecosystem and make complying with a wide range of regulations fast and easy.

Candidates should be prepared to work in a high-cadence environment, collaborating with a highly qualified and international team. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of millions of individuals by ensuring that treatments and laboratory analyses—especially for rare diseases—can remain available.

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join us on this journey.

The Role

The Senior Product Designer successfully delivers user-friendly, appealing, and creative designs/UX solutions from discovery to delivery in a fast-paced, collaborative, and fun environment. As a Senior Product Designer, you evaluate user needs and take a central part in developing solutions that meet those needs by always having a keen eye on our business model, overall strategy, and emerging technical opportunities.

As a Senior Product Designer at Platomics, you will:

  • Own the end-to-end design process holistically, including user research, wireframing, designing, and support development to execution and performance of design
  • Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing) to understand our customer's needs, expectations, and pain points. Translate insights into feasible ideas by creating user-centric designs that will satisfy and delight our customers
  • Think from the user's perspective and champion them to create excellent experiences for our customers
  • Create user journey flows, personas, sketches/wireframes, prototypes, low and high-fidelity mock-ups, and appealing UI designs to captivate and engage users
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements, ensuring designs align with user needs and business goals while maintaining detailed design documentation
  • Take a “Minimum Viable Product” mindset and help in transferring UX concepts into our product
  • Act in the driver's seat for translating user needs into meaningful and captivating user experiences considering business needs, company strategy as well as technical opportunities and constraints
  • Take an active part of a team that drives UI and UX development, working in cross-functional, agile teams in a rapidly growing company, fostering a collaborative environment, assisting team members, and promoting knowledge-sharing
  • Regularly present product insights and design results to the board of management and other stakeholders and consolidate feedback and conflicting customer interests into a coherent overall concept

As a distributed team, we aim to create opportunities for people to work to their full potential whether that is in our headquarters in Vienna, Austria, or elsewhere in Europe up to one hour away from CET.

What you bring to the table

  • 5+ years of experience as a product designer in end-to-end development of digital products in agile teams (including design systems, prototyping, etc.)
  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • Strong product design (UX//UI) skills, experience in user interviews, usability testing, journey definition, low fidelity wireframing
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, collaborating with team members, engineers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders
  • Effectively present and articulate design concepts and decisions
  • Think in a structured and conceptual way, proactive and forward-thinking
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities with time-management skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-have

  • Excellent German-language skills
  • Experienced in using design thinking tools, like design workshops and collaborative sessions, to encourage creativity
  • Understanding of user-centered design approach and iterative design process

What we offer

  • Work in a company that has a truly meaningful impact: with our work, we will improve healthcare for millions of people
  • Competitive salary, depending on your location. As a reference, the salary range for Berlin or Vienna is € 80.000 to € 90.000
  • Full-time employment (note we cannot support freelance or contract work)
  • Flexible working hours - because you know best when it is the best time to do your work
  • Remote flexibility: Join us in Vienna or from your home office in Europe up to one hour away from CET
  • Regular in-person events with a travel budget to come together at our headquarters in Vienna or somewhere else
  • Confidential and professional counseling service whenever you might need

How we work

We are a team of experienced and driven individuals across all disciplines, working remotely from all over Europe.

We are guided by the following principles:

🔋 Its a marathon, not a sprint

We create a work environment that keeps all team members healthy physically and psychologically in the long term. While we work hard, we respect boundaries and take breaks to recharge.

💬 Radical candour & psychological safety

We say what we think and care about each other. We appreciate feedback because this is what lets us grow. We create an environment where every opinion gets heard and valued.

🥇 We reject mediocrity

We deliver our best work. We care about the results we deliver and own our mistakes. We take calculated risks and ship fast - but we are not sloppy.

🔥 Ideas over hierarchy

Facts and arguments win, not job titles.
